HOW TO PAINT AN INTERNAL DOOR

So you have a lovely new door, and it is all ready to hang, but there is one big thing missing – paint. Your door needs to be painted, and like everything preparation is the key to a successful result. So Here is Our Guide on How-to Paint a Door

What You Need

Tools Needed to Paint a Door

Repair any Cracks in the Door

Step 1:Repair Any Cracks and Holes

The first thing you need to do is fill in any cracks and holes that may exist in the wood of your door.

Use a putty knife and wood filler to even out the surface so it is ready to be primed and painted.

Sanding a Door

Step 2: Sand the Surface

Using an electric sander or just a piece of strong sandpaper, remove any rough edges or old paint so that the surface of the door is smooth and ready for the next step.

Wipe away any resulting dust and debris with a damp cloth.

Putting Primer on the Door

Step 3: Put on a Coat of Primer

Work across the whole door using paintbrush number one and a layer of wood primer.

Cover all the bare wood with the primer and make sure to use a thin layer so that it doesn’t drip down.

Step 4: Paint Your Door with Two Coats

Once the primer has completely dried, use your second paintbrush to apply two coats of your chosen paint.

Pour a small amount of paint into a container to make it easier.

Brush the paint along the grain of the wood, starting with the panels and working outwards.

Apply a Topcoat

Step 5:Apply a Topcoat

When the coat has completely dried, give the door a final topcoat of paint and wait until it has completely dried.

Once you are happy with the colour of your door you can replace any fixings and hang it.
